MISA Zimbabwe delegates visit Namibia

On Thursday, March 12, 2015, two delegates, Tabani Moyo and Jacqueline Chikakano, from the Zimbabwe chapter of the Media Institute of Southern African (MISA) visited Namibia.

In a briefing held at the Regional Secretariat offices, Moyo and Chikakano mentioned that the aim of their visit was to share experiences and seek areas of cooperation with access to information (ATI) campaigns that they want to implement in Zimbabwe.

Moyo mentioned that the Action Campaign on ATI in Namibia could offer guidance in terms of the challenges and successes that have come about from this campaign.

Zimbabwe has been one of the first Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) counties to adopt an ATI law called the Access to Information and Privacy Act. However, people in Zimbabwe still struggle to access information. He explained the challenges emanating from the political nature of Zimbabwe, especially now that they are migrating to digital broadcasting.

Chikakano said they would like to find out how Namibia is dealing with content production in a digital age. Such advice would be beneficial now that Zimbabwe is migrating to digital.

MISA Zimbabwe appeared on Good Morning Nambia on the public broadcaster, Namibian Broadcasting Cooperation (NBC). They also visited the Namibian NGO Forum Trust (NANGOF) and Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT).
